What is a NEMA 17 Stepper Motor?

A NEMA 17 Stepper Motor is a stepper motor with a 43.18×43.18mm (1.7 x 1.7 inch) face plate. This NEMA 17 is larger and generally heavier than for example a NEMA 14, but this also means it has more room to put a higher torque.

Nema 17 stepper motor specifications

  • Step Angle: 1.8°
  • Rated current (single phase): 1.7 A
  • DC Rated Voltage: 3.06 V
  • Winding dc resistance (25 C): 1.8 Ω ± 10%
  • Winding inductance:3.8 mH ± 20%
  • Holding torque: ≥560 mN.m (I=1.7 A)
  • Shaft diameter: 5 mm
  • Nema 17 Stepper Motor Power Supply:

Stepper Motors must be powered through a Stepper Motor Driver such as an A4988 or other similar driver such as the EasyDriver. Do not connect the Stepper Motor to a supply voltage directly.
